PDFs look identical everywhere — great for sharing, frustrating to edit. Converting back to Word is one of the most common file tasks, and results depend on how the PDF was made.
Digital vs scanned PDFs
A digital PDF (exported from Word/Docs) has real selectable text and converts cleanly. A scanned PDF is just page images and needs OCR to recognize letters first.
Steps
- Open PDF to Word.
- Upload your PDF and click Convert.
- Open the .docx and review.
Best formatting
Simple single-column docs convert almost perfectly. Multi-column layouts and heavy tables are hardest. For layout-critical files, a high-fidelity conversion preserves far more than plain text extraction.
Going the other way
Use Word to PDF to lock your layout before sharing.
